Freeze warnings have been issued for chilly weekend mornings in the Phoenix area

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It was a cool start to the morning with lows in the lower 40s, while some areas in the valley dipped into the mid and upper 30s.

This afternoon we will see another weak system descend from the north and expect breezy to breezy conditions. Northerly winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph are expected in the Phoenix metropolitan area this afternoon.

The strongest winds will be in western Arizona, particularly in the lower Colorado River Valley, where we could see another round of blowing dust.

A cold front moving through the region will create these gusty conditions. Most of Arizona will experience dry weather today, but the eastern Mogollon Rim and White Mountains could see light snow along the front today.

Winds will remain breezy again on Friday before easing over the weekend. As winds ease and skies remain clear, temperatures will drop even more during the overnight hours this weekend.

A new freeze warning has been issued for tomorrow morning in the higher elevations and portions of Pinal County. Globe and Miami are also included in the warning. The warning is likely to continue and extend into the weekend as temperatures dip below 30°C and even above 20°C in remote areas of the valley.

As we approach the weekend, the jet stream will subside and temperatures will get cooler.

We expect lows in the mid to upper 30s Saturday and Sunday morning. The good news is that we will see plenty of sunshine and clear skies through Tuesday.
