Frequent Trump target Neil Cavuto is leaving Fox News after 28 years

Veteran Fox News star Neil Cavuto is leaving after 28 years as host, the network confirmed Thursday.

His last day will be today, ending with “Your World,” the afternoon show he has hosted since Fox News launched in 1996.

“Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a masterclass in journalism and we are extremely proud of his incredible 28 years at Fox News Media,” the network said in a statement. “His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry. We wish him a warm farewell and all the best for his next chapter.”

Cavuto was a mainstay at the network, hosting three shows on Fox News and sister channel Fox Business Network, totaling 12 hours of programming per week. In addition to moderating the daily shows “Your World” and “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” and the weekend show “Cavuto Live,” the 66-year-old also worked as a presenter Senior Vice President of Fox Business Network.

Cavuto marks one of the network’s last remaining on-air stars publicly taking on Donald Trump at a time when Fox has dominated the cable news landscape in part because of its appeal to conservative MAGA viewers.

Cavuto has often been critical of Trump, scrutinizing his claims on everything from Covid-19 treatments to trade tariffs to hurricane-related misinformation.

In return, Trump has made Cavuto a frequent target of his ire. In 2020, after the Fox host ridiculed Trump’s alleged use of hydroxychloroquine as a Covid-19 prophylactic, Trump tweeted attacks on Cavuto, calling him “stupid” and “stupid.”

During a campaign rally that same year, Trump reportedly spent 20 minutes railing against a Cavuto segment in which a guest criticized his debate skills. He directly insulted Cavuto, claiming “nobody likes him” and his “loser show.”

Earlier this year, after Cavuto suggested that Trump had lost his first and only presidential debate to Kamala Harris, the president-elect posted on Truth Social: “Neil Cavuto, Fox’s worst-rated host, is one of the WORST on TV.” I actually prefer the losers at CNN and MSDNC!”

A month later, Trump doubled down on his statement, writing again: “Neil Cavuto has one of the worst shows on television – and the worst ratings on FoxNews. The people on Fake News CNN are better!”

“I don’t work for you,” Cavuto once responded to a Trump tirade about his reporting. “My job is to protect you, not to flatter you or tear you apart, but simply to cover you.”
