Speaking of innovation, readers were interested in news this week The futuristic new Sam’s Club store in Grapevine, Texas. The fully digital store introduced the “Dancefloor” concept, an omnichannel showroom that offers customers a new way to interact with items. Where checkouts once stood, there is now an expansive space that integrates digital and in-person shopping. Members can explore online exclusives, add items to their cart with Scan & Go, and have purchases shipped directly to their door – all in an expansive environment Sam’s Club designed for convenience and discovery.

4. Walmart equips employees with body cameras

Walmart has begun providing body cameras to its stores according to CNBC as part of a pilot program at some of its US locations. Walmart confirmed it is testing the technology in one market and will evaluate the results before making longer-term decisions.

Body cameras and the footage they collect are often promoted as a way to prevent shoplifting. But Walmart intends to use the technology to keep workers safe, not as a loss prevention tool, according to a person familiar with the program.

5. High-level promotions at Ahold Delhaize USA, Dollar Tree and more

A series of executive promotions made headlines this week, including that of Ahold Delhaize USA Appointed Greg Finchum as President of Food Lioneffective May 2025. This news comes a week after Meg Ham announced she would be stepping down from the leadership role.

Dollar Tree has now done this permanently named Michael C. Creedon Jr. as CEO of the company. Creedon took on the interim role after Rick Dreiling left the company in early November for health reasons.

Grocery Outlet also made a move in its leadership, Appointment of Christoper Miller as CFOvalid from January 6th. Miller comes to Grocery Outlet from Shamrock Foods Co., where he was CFO. In late October, Grocery Outlet’s former CEO and current chairman, Eric Lindberg, was named interim president and CEO of the company. Lindberg took on the role after RJ Sheedy resigned and stepped down from the company’s board.
