HONOLULU (Island News) – A slow-moving front over Oahu will continue to bring showers to western portions of the state today as it weakens and stalls.

Breezy north-northeast winds will shift to east-northeast over Hawaii this afternoon and evening before becoming weak and variable over the weekend. Stronger trade winds are expected to pick up again next week.

A slow-moving front will bring showers to West Hawaii today with winds changing to east-northeast. High surf warnings are in effect for north and west facing coasts due to a moderate northwest swell that will continue throughout the weekend.

A high surf advisory is in effect for Niihau, Kauai Leeward, Oahu North Shore and Kauai North until 6:00 p.m. HST today, and a minor surf advisory is in effect for certain waters surrounding Kauai and Oahu until 6:00 p.m. HST.

A moderate northwesterly swell will produce advisory level surf on the north and west coasts, particularly on the north shore of Oahu. These swells will slowly subside over the next few days, but increased surf will continue throughout the weekend.

A new northwest swell is expected to peak on Saturday, with another pulse arriving on Monday, keeping surfing conditions high on the exposed north and west coasts.

Meanwhile, a small southerly swell will continue to ease into Friday and another small, longer lasting south-southwesterly swell is expected this weekend.
