Frito-Lay issued a “limited” retrieve its Lay’s Classic Potato Chips to an undeclared allergen.

The recall, which affects 13-ounce bags of the popular chips, was published by the US Food and Drug Administration on December 18th. Officials said the bags may contain undeclared milk after the company was alerted by a consumer contact.

Frito-Lay said 6,344 bags are part of the recall.

“The product included in this recall was distributed to certain retail stores and e-commerce merchants in Oregon and Washington,” the company said in a statement. “Consumers could have purchased these chips as early as November 3, 2024.”

Frito-Lay urges consumers to look for a “Guaranteed Fresh” date marked “11. FEB 2025” and a manufacturing code of either 6462307xx or 6463307xx. The bags have UPC code 28400 31041.

Any bags containing this information should be discarded by consumers with milk allergies.

“Individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk are at risk of experiencing a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product,” Frito-Lay’s statement said.

To date, no allergic reactions have been reported and no other Lay’s products, flavors, sizes or variety packs have been recalled, the FDA notice said.

Last month, over 79,000 pounds of Costco Kirkland Signature butter were recalled due to concerns about the lack of a “contains milk” label on the product packaging – even though the products were clearly marketed as butter.
