From Software unveil Elden Ring: NightReign, a three-player co-op spin-off

Remember when From Software’s Hidetaka Miyazaki said that they weren’t thinking about Elden Ring 2, but the sequel to Elden Ring in general? Now, who had “Three-Player Co-op Musou” on their bingo card?

Just announced at the annual Geoff Awards this winter, Elden Ring: Nightreign is a multiplayer spin-off that pits a trio of Elden wrestlers against tides of enemies in a world that reshuffles every time you play. It will be released in 2025. Here is a trailer.

It appears to be a faster, more agile experience than Elden Ring, with characters running up walls like ninjas and flying into the air using summonable bird creatures. There’s a hint of horde clearing, but in the trailer there are a lot of bosses and it looks like you’ll have to divide and conquer to defeat them. “Divide and conquer” here means “get eaten so your partner can shoot a dragon with his bow”.

The aesthetics and character designs are so familiar that it could easily be DLC. This is all in line with Miyazaki’s suggestion that Elden Ring represents the upper limit of project scope at From Software and that smaller projects could be the “next level.”

There may be even bigger news from From Software: Sony is in talks to buy its parent company Kadokawa.
