FSU football hires Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator: What you should know

The former Auburn and UCF head coach is expected to be named the Seminoles’ new offensive coordinator, the Tallahassee Democrat has confirmed. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Saturday.

Malzahn is a long-time offensive coach who has determined the assignments in his previous assignments. However, he stepped away from his officiating duties at UCF earlier this season as the Knights struggled to a 4-8 record. Malzahn also played four different quarterbacks. The school announced Malzahn’s resignation on Saturday.

Gus Malzahn was the first to introduce the Hurry-Up, No-Huddle offense

The 59-year-old Malzahn was the first head coach to introduce the “Hurry-Up, No Huddle” offense in the SEC at Auburn in 2009, and his offensive philosophy and strategies have since been implemented by most college programs as well as several NFL teams .
