Welcome to the new year.

Even though 2025 has just begun, calendars are already being marked with holidays.

The Office of Personnel Management lists 12 federal holidays spread over 11 days. The mismatch arises because Inauguration Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day both fall on January 20th.

Federal holidays mean that federal offices as well as banks and financial markets are closed.

Not included in the OPM list is the January 9 day of mourning declared by President Joe Biden following the death of former President Jimmy Carter.

Other holidays on the calendar to celebrate include Easter, Hanukkah and Ramadan.
