Gabriel could return for Arsenal’s game against Everton – Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Magalhaes could return to Arsenal’s defense for the visit of Everton.

The Brazilian defender has missed the last three games against Manchester United, Fulham and Monaco but trained today.

Jakub Kiwior has started Arsenal’s last three games in central defense, keeping two clean sheets alongside William Saliba.

“There is a possibility that (Gabriel) will be available,” Arteta said. “He trained today. We’ll see tomorrow.”

Riccardo Calafiori has also missed the last three games due to injury, but the Italian is not yet ready to return.

“We just respect the times that the medical department has set,” Arteta said.

“Then we monitor his development every day. We understand he’s not quite ready yet, but he’s getting very close to that goal now.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is also out but Miles Lewis-Skelly could continue at left-back after his impressive performance in the Champions League on Wednesday.

“Well, he definitely deserves to be in the running for selection because he has performed really well and competed,” Arteta said.

“At his age, it’s strange to show maturity and personality. It’s the same off the field. He is a person who always surprises all employees with the questions he is able to ask. This shows that Myles is a really smart boy.

“You always take a risk. It doesn’t matter what experience or age you have. He was surrounded by very experienced players. We believed it was the right context in which he could help the team win the game and he certainly did that.”
