WHAT’S AT PLAY

Georgetown: The Hoyas have lost their last five opening games in the Big East. A win tonight would both end a long losing streak against Creighton and put the Hoyas above .500 for the first time since winning the 2019 season opener at Butler. That was 111 BE games ago in the regular season. Slow starts have not translated into success for Georgetown since realignment. Hoyas are 3-8 in openers since 2014 and only hit over .500 once in league play in 2015. A big test – in the truest sense of the word – for Thomas Sorber tonight against Ryan Kalkbrenner. The key for Sorber, as always, is to stay out of foul trouble. Creighton was up and down with a really tough schedule because Greg McDermott knew he had a good team and wanted to challenge them. Their win over No. 1 Kansas was obviously huge, but now they have to find a way to win without Texas Tech transfer Pop Isaacs. This will be the first game since Jayden Epps was named Big East Player of the Week. It’s nice to get some serious buzz in a conference opener against one of the teams expected to clinch a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
