Gane vs Volkov 2 Odds, Preview, Picks and Prediction

The next event on the UFC schedule for 2024 is the UFC 310 fight card. The date of the card is Saturday December 7th. The pay-per-view event will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC 310 is the final PPV event of 2024 for the promotion. The main event is a title fight between UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Asakura, who makes his UFC debut at UFC 310. Before that matchup occurs, former interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane will face former Bellator champion Alexander Volkov in a crucial contest. Below we look at the betting odds for this match and offer our picks and predictions for Gane vs. Volkov at UFC 310.

UFC 310 fight card: Ciryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov 2

Ciryl Gane (12-2) is the No. 2 fighter in the official UFC heavyweight rankings. The 34-year-old French competitor has only lost in UFC title fights, losing by decision to Francis Ngannou for the undisputed title in 2022 and losing by submission to Jon Jones for the vacant belt in 2023. Gane captured the interim heavyweight belt in 2021 with a knockout against Derrick Lewis. In his last trip to the Octagon, Gane defeated Serghei Spivac by TKO. This fight took place in September 2023.

Gane debuted in the UFC in 2019 after a Muay Thai career. He was 3-0 in MMA when he fought in the Octagon for the first time. Gane started his UFC career 7-0. His first loss came in the title unification fight against Ngannou.

Alexander Volkov (38-10) is ranked No. 3 in the UFC’s heavyweight division. The 36-year-old has been with the organization since 2016 but has never fought for UFC gold. Volkov is currently on a four-fight winning streak, with his most recent outing being a decision win in June 2024 over interim title challenger Sergei Pavlovich.

Volkov has been with the UFC since 2016. The rise has been ups and downs for him. His longest winning streak prior to his current four-fight undefeated streak came when he opened his UFC career at 3-0.

UFC 310 fight card: Ciryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov 1 results

These two faced off in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card in June 2021 at the UFC Apex. Gane secured a decisive victory in this encounter (50-45, 50-45, 49-46).

Gane landed 135 of 255 significant hits, a landing rate of 52 percent in the competition. Volkov landed 47 percent of his hits, 115 for 241.

Both fighters did a good job of mixing up their goals and techniques.

UFC 310 Fight Card: Ciryl Gane over Alexander Volkov

“At first when the UFC suggested this fight to me, I was a little bit like, ‘Oh…why?’” Gane told Ariel Helwani. “But this fight makes sense. I’m No. 1 (ranking), he’s No. 2 and that really makes sense. Behind me (in the rankings) you’re struggling a little bit, so I know this fight looks like a semi-final up to the belt.”

“He has good movement, footwork and punches,” Volkov told Sherdog. “He is a technical fighter. The challenge of our sport is how we improve. I like this challenge. We have already fought five rounds. These will be rounds six, seven and eight. We will continue our story.”

UFC 310 Fight Card: Ciryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov 2 betting odds

UFC 310 Fight Card: Ciryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov 2 tips and predictions

I don’t see much difference between these two and the first fight between these two. Gane is the more agile and athletic fighter. He will use his movement, speed and accuracy to score points and secure a decision victory. Volkov is a good fighter, but he hasn’t shown the growth or development that would lead you to believe he can defeat Gane in 2024.

UFC 310 fight card: Reyes vs. Smith

Dominick Reyes (13-4) joined the UFC in 2017. At that point he had a record of 6-0. Reyes made a statement in his promotional debut by knocking out Joachim Christensen in 29 seconds and earning a Performance of the Night bonus.

Reyes followed that win with five straight wins, the last of which was a knockout over former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman. The first-round result earned Reyes his second Performance of the Night bonus. More importantly, the win set him up for a clash with then-UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in 2020.

Reyes pushed Jones for five rounds at UFC 247, but his efforts were not rewarded by the judges that night in Houston, Texas, as Jones secured a unanimous decision victory. The fight was close. Close enough that UFC CEO Dana White said the fight scored three rounds for Reyes and one for Jones in the final round.

Since that loss, Reyes has suffered three knockout losses against Jan Blachowicz, Jiri Prochazka and Ryan Spann. In June of this year, Reyes patched things up with a first-round knockout win over Dustin Jacoby.

Reyes enters UFC 310 as the No. 12 fighter in the official UFC light heavyweight rankings.

Anthony Smith (38-20) has been a professional since 2008. Smith had a cup of coffee with the UFC in 2013, but a loss to Josh Neer ended his run with the promotion after one fight. He returned to the UFC in early 2016 after competing for five more promotions. Smith won the middleweight titles from Cage Fury and Victory during this run.

Smith went on a 7-2 run between 2016 and 2018 under the UFC banner. Six of his seven wins came by stoppage (five knockouts, one submission). In March 2019, Smith met Jones. He put the champion on the scorecards, but dropped a decision to Jones (48-44 x 3).

Smith’s career has been up and down since the Jones fight. Since then, he is 6-6, with a three-fight winning streak. Smith is 2-4 in his last six appearances for the UFC. He suffered a setback in June against Roman Dolidze.

Smith is the No. 13 fighter in the official UFC 205-pound rankings.
