And the 38-year-old actress highlighted the stark contrast to her experiences as a young performer who had no say in whether or not she filmed an intimate scene.

Arterton, best known for his role as Secret Service agent Strawberry Fields in the 2008 Bond film Quantum of Solace, said: “Once I was just given a sex scene.

“I’m really happy we have intimacy coordinators now.” It takes away the unknown.

The actress told the Times magazine she is still concerned about the impact sex scenes have on younger actors. “I said no (to a sex scene) another time when I was feeling a little stronger,” she said.

“That’s why I’m worried about younger or interchangeable actors.” I’ve heard stories of actor friends who are less established or just starting out and feel like they can’t say anything because they’ll get fired. This is really terrible.’

She revealed further changes in the film industry after the emergence of the #MeToo movement, which gave a voice to survivors of sexual harassment and violence.

She added: “At the top of every call sheet there is a number you can call if you’re going through something.”

“It’s completely anonymous.” That’s really great because it didn’t exist before. A lot has changed. “If bullying occurs, there are places you can turn to.”

Arterton stars in new thriller Culprits, available to stream on ITVX from December 19th.
