George Pickens reiterates his belief that the NFL is waging a “revenge campaign” against the Steelers

For the second time this season, George Pickens has taken to social media to make his case for a vendetta against himself and the Pittsburgh Steelers. After the events at the Philadelphia Eagles game, Pickens took to social media to reiterate his opinion.

In a post on NFLonCBS’ Instagram in which Darius Slay takes a swipe at Darnell Washington, Pickens left a comment.

“But we were turned away. But you don’t think it’s a vendetta against the Steelers,” Pickens wrote.

After a special teams turnover that put the Steelers within scoring range for the first time, Darnell Washington blocked Darius Slayton nearly 20 yards beyond the end zone, resulting in a scuffle. Multiple flags were thrown, replay assistants were involved and it ended with two flags against the Steelers and none against the Eagles.

The referees said after the game that the Eagles didn’t throw any shots. According to this video, Slayton started the fight with two punches on Washington. Obviously the replay assistant wouldn’t have access to that fan’s camera angle, but these scrums almost always result in even penalties for both teams.

Slayton even described the moment as a hockey fight and initially thought there would be some ejections as a result. The Eagles clearly got away with one here.

No, the league is not waging a vendetta against the Steelers. But if anyone has the right to think that way, it’s George Pickens. As he has made a name for himself, everything he does is scrutinized. He received two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against the Bengals. In the same game, he was pinned to the ground by his helmet for a pick-six without a thrown flag, leading him to suggest he had an NFL target on his back.

There was also a situation earlier in the season where Pickens was deprived of a touchdown because he tapped one foot twice instead of putting both feet on the ground. New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson had a similar play that resulted in a touchdown.

I would imagine Slayton will be fined for this scuffle next Saturday once the league has fully reviewed all aspects of the fight. Her initial review and explanation to Mike Tomlin were not sufficient.
