George Pickens, Steelers ‘didn’t do s-‘, Bengals CB says ‘everyone guarding him ate today’

Pittsburgh Steelers WR George Pickens had an interesting stat yesterday: 6 scores, 1 catch, 0 yards. He dropped some passes or at least failed to keep them through contact. It was certainly a day to forget – at least for him and the Steelers. Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt and the rest of the team will remember this.

While the Steelers publicly vouched for Pickens, who finished the season with a poor record, including a lengthy injury that cost him three games, there’s no question that he didn’t have the year he or anyone wanted for him. And despite still having one playoff game left, he ended his third regular season with a pretty unfavorable record. I’m sure Taylor-Britt will have no problem reminding him of that next game.

“Everyone that guarded him ate today,” Taylor-Britt said of George Pickens, via ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. “They didn’t do anything. So that was good for us, man. That is your inspiration. And we didn’t give them the momentum they needed.”

In fact, the Bengals as a team enjoyed their role in preventing the Steelers from being seeded. They would have loved to rob them of the division title – the Ravens took care of it first – but their loss to the Steelers will likely force them to face Baltimore in the first round.

And they will do so while trying to get George Pickens back on track. It’s impossible to say why he had such a day, but he can just let it go now. After dropping a deep ball, he later dropped another pass incomplete through contact. Later, he just dropped a pretty simple pass. When Russell Wilson finally looked downfield again, the ball wasn’t where it was supposed to be.

Pickens’ chance at redemption will have to wait. But at least Pickens knows he still has one game left. Cam Taylor-Britt and the Bengals will have to wait to find out if they get the help they need. And they need the Las Vegas Raiders to beat the Los Angeles Chargers, which probably won’t happen.

Still, the spoils go to the winner, so Taylor-Britt and the Bengals will relish this opportunity to pursue Pickens and the Steelers. The Bengals reportedly sang the Steelers’ rally song, “Renegade,” in the locker room after beating them.

Saturday was the last best chance for George Pickens to argue for a new contract with the Steelers. Despite being sidelined with injury, he finished his third season with just 59 catches for 900 yards and three touchdowns. Despite missing three games, he only scored three times less than last season.

Earlier this year, Cam Taylor-Britt caught a pick-six against the Steelers in coverage of George Pickens. It appeared that Taylor-Britt had illegally pushed Pickens to the ground, which should have resulted in a penalty. However, he was not reported by the officials for this and he did not receive a fine.

While Taylor-Britt didn’t have his best game and the Bengals have already had to bench him once this season, he has bragging rights for the Pickens right now. And you know a cornerback will take any opportunity to let an opposing receiver know that. I’m sure Taylor-Britt will take advantage of this, but Pickens has only himself to blame after his ugly performance.
