Georgia’s Carson Beck was eliminated from the SEC Championship after a big blow to Texas and returns with a dramatic winning game

Georgia rallied to win the SEC championship with a 22-19 overtime victory over Texas, all without starting quarterback Carson Beck for the entire second half. Until one last game.

Beck was injured during a chaotic play at the end of the first half and was left on the ground after a sack. But his replacement, Gunner Stockton, stepped in and led the Bulldogs to an immediate touchdown and a 10-6 lead over Texas.

According to the ABC broadcast, Georgia chose Stockton, the substitute who came out of halftime after Beck was ruled out for the game.

At halftime, Georgia trailed Texas 6-3.

But while Beck probably wasn’t able to throw the ball, he had to step in on Georgia’s final play of overtime because Stockton’s helmet had been knocked off on the previous play. Due to the rule, he had to sit out the following play.

Beck came in and handed the ball to Trevor Etienne, who scored the game-winning 4-yard touchdown.

It was a wild twist in a game full of them. And now, as SEC champions, Georgia gets a bye in the first round of the College Football Playoff. But who will play QB?

Stockton immediately got the Georgia offense going, leading the Bulldogs on a 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. It was the first time that either team reached the end zone in what had previously been an ugly game. Beck had gone 7 of 13 for 56 yards in the first half before the injury, and two separate Texas interceptions were negated by penalties against the Longhorns.

Stockton wasn’t much more effective after its first drive, completing 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards. He also threw a costly interception late in regulation that helped set up a game-winning field goal for Texas.
