Gervonta “Tank” Davis officially announced his March 1st fight with Lamont Roach this evening, the official press conference concluded just moments ago. There’s been a lot of talk here about Tank’s choice of opponent, and when Roach took the podium for the first time, he shared those thoughts with the public.

“This is a huge opportunity, so we’re going to take advantage of it,” Roach said. “Everyone knows why I come here. If not, then you are in for a surprise. I know he won’t be surprised. I think he actually took this fight for the naysayers and all this and all that, people are talking shit about the fight. I think he actually accepted the fight because he knows I’m a dog and he wants to show off his skills against a dog. So I’m going to show you what happens when two dogs get in the ring together, and of course I’m going to be the one who comes out victorious.”

It would then be Tank’s turn to say his piece.

“I’m excited to be a part of it and it will be a great event on March 1st. At the moment I’m not really excited about getting into it and stuff like that, I’m just really out of it. But on March 1st it will be a great show with the same results. We’ll just have to wait and see. We have three months to prepare, so it will be a treat.”

“He has skills. Even though he’s in a smaller weight class, I feel like Lamont has done that – and he’s actually one of the guys I envisioned in boxing who’s actually still doing well. Everyone who started with us really doesn’t want to be in the picture right now. So I would say people don’t really know him, but he definitely has the skills, definitely a top opponent.”

Roach on how his style will differ from what Tank has faced before

“It’s a challenge in terms of skills, I bring a lot to the table. I can adapt, I can fight different styles. I’m tough, I’m brave, I’m smart, I’m funny. Whatever the case may be, whatever I can pull out my bag of tricks, that’s what I’m going to do. The others were either one-trick ponies or they just didn’t have enough.”
