Giants QB Tommy DeVito (forearm) inactive Cowboys game; Drew Lock should start

New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito is officially inactive for Thursday’s Thanksgiving game against the Dallas Cowboys (4:25 p.m. ET, Fox) due to a forearm injury.

Drew Lock, who appeared in two games this season, will start. Tim Boyle will serve as the backup and DeVito is listed as the third emergency QB.

DeVito’s injury occurred during Sunday’s 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when he was sacked four times.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll told reporters earlier this week that he was “hopeful” DeVito could play, but it was “not 100%.” DeVito said later in the day that he had planned to play against the Cowboys.

“I think if it were a normal week, Tuesday is usually when things settle into the body. If you get hit on Sunday, Monday is usually a bit sore; Tuesday is usually the worst day,” DeVito said. “So it usually helps to have an extra four or five days afterward, whatever it is.”

DeVito did not fly with the team to Dallas on Wednesday and instead remained there to undergo further evaluation. After being listed as questionable, he traveled on later that day.

DeVito was making his second start of the season after being named Daniel Jones’ successor after the longtime Giants starter requested his release. Jones is expected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings practice squad this week.

Lock has been getting reps with the starters this week in anticipation of his first NFL start since Dec. 18, 2023.

“Just typical for the job. You always have to be ready, no matter what week, no matter what situation, you just have to play like you’re going to go in there and play,” Lock said after Tuesday’s search. “My attitude hasn’t changed this week and we’ll see how the rest of the week goes.”

In two games this season, Lock has thrown for 9 yards on 9 pass attempts.
