Girl Scout cookie prices are going up in 2025 and two flavors are saying goodbye

If your cookie bill is giving you anxiety this year, don’t blame the little girl in the green sash. In 2025, Girl Scout cookie prices will increase across the region.

The Girl Scouts Cookie Program, including dates and pricing, is organized by individual councils, and for the 2025 season, the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas approved a $1 price increase, according to its 2025 Cookie Program Guide. The council serves 32 counties, including Dallas, Collin and Denton counties.

Core cookies – Samoas, Tagalongs, Thin Mints, etc. – sell for $6, while specialty cookies Toffee-tastic and S’mores are available for $7, down from $5 and $6, respectively, last year. Prices last rose in 2020, also by one dollar.

Additionally, this will be the final year for two flavors nationwide, S’mores and the French toast-inspired Toast-Yay!, according to a press release.

In-person cookie sales in the region begin Friday and end March 2.

“The Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas has not increased cookie prices since 2020 and is now following per-box prices from other communities in the state,” a council representative said in a statement.

“The price increase will help mitigate the increased cost of products to the Council without impacting on the revenue the troops receive. When a consumer purchases a box of cookies, 100% of the proceeds stay local and provide adventures and experiences for girls.”

The price increases come as Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) is in financial trouble, but they likely won’t help. All proceeds from Girl Scouts cookie sales remain with local governments and troops; GSUSA only receives a royalty from the cookie bakers.

The GSUSA FAQ page emphasizes that cookies are sold at “fair market value,” which, in addition to making one’s cookie habit not tax deductible, also suggests that increases are in line with larger economic trends.

While food inflation stalled in 2024, it reached record highs in 2022 and 2023, and overall prices have risen 28% since 2019. Cookie sales pay for activities and travel, as well as equipment such as uniforms and books, all of which are subject to increasing price pressures and anything else.

GSUSA now generates the majority of its revenue from membership fees. In October, the Assembly approved a measure to nearly triple annual contributions by 2028 to address operating losses that are expected to reach $5.6 million in fiscal year 2024. Last year, Boy Scout membership was $25 per year. In 2025 it will cost $45, in 2027 it will cost $65.

Without the increase, GSUSA feared it would have to cut programs and services, according to its workbook for delegates to the National Council meeting. To mitigate the impact of the surge on the community, GSUSA is providing funding to communities for scholarships and financial assistance.

Girl Scouts can receive anything from a small charm bracelet to trips to New York City as a reward for selling cookies, and many communities offer free membership renewals as a reward for selling a certain number of cookies.
