KKicking off awards season in Hollywood, the 2025 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 5, could offer more than just a stage for speeches and fashion.

The show can sometimes name the leading candidates for the Academy Awards, which take place in March. This year could also make history, including with the nomination of the first openly transgender woman in the Best Actress category.

Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s ceremony:

What time does it start and how can I watch it?

The annual Golden Globes Awards ceremony begins on Sunday, January 5th at 5:00 p.m. PT/8:00 p.m. ET at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

Viewers can watch the show live on CBS or streaming on Paramount+ – although only subscribers who have Paramount+ with the Showtime plan will be able to watch the ceremony live. Others will be able to stream the ceremony on Paramount+ starting Monday.

To see all the fashion, viewers can view the red carpet before the show diversity and the Entertainment Tonight websites starting at 3:30 p.m. PT/6:30 p.m. ET. The Golden Globes website will also stream the red carpet.

Who is the host?

The show is hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, who was praised for her comedic skills at the 2024 Tom Brady Roast. It should be relatively easy for her to outdo last year’s host Jo Koy, who opened the Globes with controversial and uncomfortable jokes that drew heavy criticism from viewers.

Gascón is the first openly transgender woman to be nominated for Lead Actress in a Motion Picture at the Golden Globes, and should she win the award for Best Performance by a Female Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, she would be the first transgender female actor, who won in a top film actress category at the Globes.
