Google shares the top search trends of 2024

Google has released its annual list of the most Googled terms, providing an interesting overview of the past year based on the causes of users’ searches.

And while most trends will be what you expect, it’s interesting to consider what caught people’s attention this year and why and how that might impact your future marketing efforts.

First of all, the list, available for “global” searches or by specific regions, shows the most Googled world events and people in 2024.

Yes, there are probably no surprises there, although it is interesting to note the relative popularity of sports in general searches compared to politicians in “people.” Presumably a lot of the interest in cricket comes from India, where cricket is practically a religion, but no particular cricketer has made it to the top five of the people list.

Google added Hum to search back in 2020, but it seems to be gaining more and more traction, with Google taking a moment to clarify how the functionality was used based on the songs on people’s minds this year of the people have established.
