Greatest Broadway musical film of all time

“Wicked” isn’t yet defying gravity at the box office.

After more than a month in theaters, the hit film has set a new record as the highest-grossing film of all time based on a Broadway musical.

The record was previously held by 2008’s “Mamma Mia!”, which grossed $611 million at the global box office, according to Box Office Mojo. According to Box Office Mojo, “Wicked” has grossed $635 million worldwide so far.

But “Wicked” turned things around and became one of the biggest hit films of the year. It is currently the sixth highest-grossing film of 2024 and the only film in the top six that does not have a sequel. There were four nominations at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, including best comedy or musical.
