Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., landed in Greenland on Tuesday for what he called a private visit. But his entourage included fiery conservative activist Charlie Kirk and the elder Trump’s chief of staff, Sergio Gor. Trump Sr. described them as his representatives.

“Don Jr. and my representatives land in Greenland. The reception was great. You and the free world need security, strength and PEACE! This is a deal that has to happen. MAGA. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote in a Tuesday post on his social media platform Truth Social.

Five years after rejecting Trump’s Arctic ambitions, Frederiksen reiterated that “Greenland belongs to Greenlanders.”

“On the one hand, I am happy about the increased American interest in Greenland,” Frederiksen said in an interview with Danish broadcaster TV 2 on Tuesday. “But of course it is important that it takes place in a way that suits Greenlanders. Deciding what their future holds.”

Greenland, the largest island in the world with around 60,000 inhabitants, was a Danish colony until it became self-governing with its own parliament in 1979. It remains a territory of Denmark, with Copenhagen exercising control over its foreign and defense policy.

As world powers seek to expand their reach and presence in the Arctic, mineral-rich Greenland – home to a US military base – is coveted for its strategic value for security and trade.
