Police: Teen shooter kills teacher and student at school in Wisconsin

Three people died and six were injured in the tragic incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. Authorities are working to uncover the motive behind the attack.

This is the part where I usually first say hello and thank you for being here. But under these circumstances, I’ll just give you a damn minute to start your live streams or do whatever you need to do. And while you’re doing that, my name is Chief Sean Barnes Sho NBA Rnes. I am currently the Chief of Police for the Madison Police Department. I’ll give a quick update on the school shooting we had in Madison today. Um, there is some information that we will not release as it is still an evolving situation. Uh you’ll hear from some of our representatives from our city and our county and behind me are a hell of a lot of people who came together today to make sure the day ended well and everyone else was safe. With that said, let me begin my remarks. Uh, today is really a damn sad day for Madison and for our country. It’s a damn day that I believe will live on in our collective minds for a very, very long time. Here are the details today at 10:57 am. Our team was called to Abundant Life Christian School. As for an active shooter, we know three people are dead, including the suspected shooter. We know the suspected shooter was a teenager who was attending school at the time. We do not disclose the student’s age, gender, or other identifying comments about the student. Two more people died, uh, they were uh, a fucking teacher and a fucking teenage student. Six other people were injured. Two students are currently hospitalized in critical condition and these injuries are considered life-threatening. Four students are also in other area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, but those are just the physical injuries that we are aware of. We know this was in the middle of the school day. And so there will be other injuries that we will have to deal with for a very, very long time, and we will do everything we can as a community to heal those injuries as well. Many of you have asked me why. Why did this happen? Uh, what do we know what the motivation was? I don’t know, but I’ll tell you this: Our investigators are working hard in the investigative process to find out as many answers as possible so that we can prevent things like this from happening even further, not only in this community, but in other communities across our country. I think we can all agree that enough is enough and we need to come together to do everything in our power to support our students and prevent press conferences like this from happening again and again, the school building itself is clear. We have evacuated the school and there are no further threats or dangers to the community. We are currently in the process we call reunification, and what that simply means is ensuring that every student who was in school is present, accountable, and returned to their loved ones. This usually takes a hell of a long time, but unfortunately we have practice and practice and practice and that is why we are able to reunite students with their parents within hours of the school shooting. The reunion will be held at the Dean Clinic on Stoughton Road and I would definitely like to thank them for their help. Again. We need our public to find an alternative path. If that’s your normal route home. As we near the end of the day, please be patient or find another way home. We are currently editing the scene. We are interviewing those who may have been witnesses and obtaining search warrants to obtain additional information. And finally, I want to thank everyone who stands behind me, the organizations and agencies they represent, the men and women of the Madison Police Department and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office who selfishly ran into a damn building, without knowing what they are doing Many of you know this about me. But I started my career, if you will, as a public school teacher in 1997 and taught public school for four years. It was one of the greatest joys of my life before I became a police officer. And I can tell you what a special place our schools are. That being said, we owe it to our community to do everything we can to ensure that it is not only a special place, but also a safe place. And we will continue to do that. We therefore ask you to be patient as new information is received. We will do our best to provide you with accurate and timely information. But we want to make sure our public knows that we are working extremely hard on this particular incident. There’s a hell of a lot of people involved and we’re definitely going to come together as a damn community. Uh, I would like to address it at this time. Uh, Police Fire Chief Chris Carman.
