“Hacks” wins TV series “Musical” or “Comedy” at the 2025 Golden Globes

The Max comedy series “Hacks” won the Golden Globe for best TV series, musical or comedy in its third season at the 2025 awards ceremony.

For “Hacks,” it’s the second time the Jean Smart-led series has won TV’s top comedy award at the Globes. She won the award in 2022 after the first season, but missed the second season in 2023.

Sunday’s “Hacks” was also nominated for best performance by an actress in a television series, musical or comedy for Jean Smart and best performance by an actress in a supporting role on television for Hannah Einbender. Smart has already won in 2022.

Season 3 of “Hacks” competed against the third season of another hit streaming series, “The Bear,” as well as the ABC network comedy “Abbott Elementary,” Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” in its fourth season and Netflix’s “ “Nobody Wants That” and “The Gentlemen.”

“Hacks” won the Emmy for best TV comedy in September, making it the TV Academy’s main prize for the first time.

“Hacks” has already begun production on its fourth season and is set to return in 2025, this time not only on Max but also on the linear HBO channel. Last season ended with something of a cliffhanger twist — one IndieWire called one of our favorite scenes of the year — before Smart’s Deborah Vance is about to launch as host of a revered late-night show.

“We want the audience to feel like the rug is being pulled out from under them. “It also forces us to push the characters and their relationship further,” Aniello said in an interview.

“Hacks” is created and hosted by Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky. The series is produced by Downs and Aniello through their Paulilu banner, Statsky through First Thought Productions, as well as Michael Schur through Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment and Morgan Sackett. The studio is Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Co-creator Downs also appears in the series alongside Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Mark Indelicato, Rose Abdoo and Lorenza Izzo. Season three guest stars included J. Smith-Cameron, Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks, Christopher Lloyd, Dan Bucatinsky, George Wallace, Tony Goldwyn and Aristotle Athari.

Dick Clark Productions, owner and producer of the Golden Globes, is a Penske Media company. PMC is also the parent company of IndieWire.
