LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The family of Hannah Kobayashi, a Maui woman who disappeared after landing in Los Angeles last month, says she has been found safe.

“We are incredibly relieved and grateful that Hannah was found safe and sound,” the family said in a statement. “The last month has been an unimaginable ordeal for our family and we kindly ask for privacy as we take the time to heal and process everything we have been through. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us during this difficult time.” . Your kindness and care meant a lot to us.

Eyewitness News has learned that Kobayashi has spoken to her family and assured them that she is safe.

No further details were disclosed.

Kobayashi flew from Maui to LAX on November 8th and was scheduled to take a connecting flight to New York, but missed that connection. Aside from a few cryptic text messages, the family hadn’t heard from her directly.

Police later said they believed she had intentionally missed the connecting flight. Days later, she picked up her luggage at LAX and used cash and her passport to buy a bus ticket to the border at Union Station before heading to Mexico.

Hannah’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, was found dead in a parking lot near LAX last month. The medical examiner determined the cause of death to be suicide.
