Harlan Coben’s Netflix show “Missing You” uses John Waite titles

The new Harlan Coben series, which hits Netflix on January 1st, is named after John Waite’s hit “Missing You,” just like its book version. No wonder, as the famous author thought the title was “perfect” for the novel, as he revealed during a recent visit to London for a first look at the film adaptation, which is expected to use song titles for each of its five episodes.

“I immediately thought of the song,” Coben told reporters who were able to watch the first episode of the series. “In fact, when the book came out, John Waite and I actually did a few events together.”

“Yes, he sang,” joked the best-selling author. “And when he heard about the show, he bombarded me with emails like, ‘Here’s another version I did of the song’ and ‘Here’s a duet I did of the song’.”

Coben recalled his reaction: “It’s all right, we did it!” Before praising Waite: “I thought that song was just perfect. It worked as a title. It worked as sense. That was one of the first things I thought about when I came up with this.”

When asked if music was a central focus of her work, Victoria Asare-Archer, the author who adapted the novel for the screen, told reporters: “Music wasn’t necessarily what (I) wrote about. But I’ve worked on these shows before, and they’re big, exciting, twisty and exciting.”

The new five-part limited series, produced by Quay Street Productions, part of ITV Studios, follows the success Netflix has had with Coben’s Fool me once.
