Hawaii Island police are searching for three escapees from the Hawai’i Community Correctional Center: Maui Now

A search is underway for three inmates who were reportedly released from the Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center’s Hale Nani Facility, 3200 Kanoelehua Ave., at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024. in Hilo, fled.

41-year-old inmate Kawai J. Pomroy was first found missing. When staff discovered that inmates Clyde T. Loa, 31, and Joseph C. Fernandez, 35, were also missing, an emergency lockdown was implemented.

Around the same time, an employee discovered his car keys and vehicle were missing. The vehicle is described as a metallic dark gray 2014 Nissan Altima with Hawaiian license plate ZCK 261.

Employees immediately called the Hawaiian Police Department and the Sheriff’s Department.

Pomroy, 41, is 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs about 208 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. He is serving a sentence for abusing a family or household member.

Loa is 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs about 165 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. He is serving a sentence for unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle.

Fernandez is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs about 180 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. He is serving a sentence for carrying or possessing a loaded firearm on a public street.

All three inmates are considered community custody, the lowest level of custody.
