Heated Embiid ejected from Sixers’ game against Spurs – NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Sixers’ 2024-25 season has been notable so far for the minimal amount of time their stars have shared the floor.

A Joel Embiid exclusion is something new.

With 2:59 left in the second quarter of the Sixers’ Monday night match against the Spurs, referee Jenna Schroeder gave Embiid two technical fouls.

Embiid learned the technical issues in quick succession after being warned for his third personal foul. Victor Wembanyama fell to the ground on an Embiid drive to answer the call, to which the seven-time All-Star responded immediately and angrily. He pursued Schroeder all over the field and eventually had to be stopped by teammates and coaches.

Early in the second quarter, Schroeder also decided to eject Sixers backup center Andre Drummond on another play that caused Wembanyama to go down.

However, the referees reviewed the play and concluded that Drummond had not committed a “hostile act” worthy of his second technical foul. They also announced a Wembanyama flop violation, but then bizarrely decided to reverse that call after the fact.

At the start of the second half, the Sixers deployed Guerschon Yabusele at center against Wembanyama. A Sixers official said in the third quarter that Drummond suffered a bruised left big toe and was out for the remainder of the game.
