Heavy rain and gusty winds are possible in Central Florida as the cold front moves through. Here is the time

ORLANDO, Fla. – A cold front will move into Florida on Wednesday morning, bringing heavy rain and storms through the afternoon.

The narrow line of showers and storms will approach northwestern neighborhoods between 10 and 11 a.m. and move over the I-4 corridor and Cape Canaveral between 1 and 3 p.m. Although there will be heavy rain, the storms will advance quickly enough not to accumulate large rain totals (up to 0.25 inches).

Due to the possibility of strong to severe storms, Wednesday will be an adverse weather day.

Clouds and rain 12 p.m

There is an isolated risk of strong to severe storms that could produce lightning and gusts of up to 50 mph, which is why the Storm Prediction Center is classifying northwest counties as marginally at risk.

In addition to increasing rainfall (50-60%), wind speeds will also increase between 15 and 20 mph (24 to 32 km/h), with gusts up to 30 mph (50 km/h).

Strong storms possible

A cold air mass will settle behind the front early Thursday morning, dropping temperatures into the low 40s across most of the area.

Some of the colder spots are north and west of I-4. Even though the winds die down overnight, most areas will see enough wind to push wind chill values above 30 degrees.

Wind chill

While winds are likely to prevent frost, there is a small chance of patchy frost in more sheltered areas. Thursday afternoon, northeast winds continue to blow at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, with highs remaining in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Temperatures are expected to quickly rise back to near-normal levels in the mid-70s on Friday and into the weekend under partly cloudy skies.

The breeze will remain between 10 and 15 mph as the wind shifts more onshore. The strong breeze increases dangers for beachgoers and boaters. Rip currents pose a high risk over the weekend and rough surf and large breaking waves are expected in the surf zone. There is also the possibility of minor beach erosion, particularly during high tide this weekend and early next week.

High temperatures will be in the lower to mid 70s on Friday, warming to the mid to upper 70s by Saturday, with those temperatures continuing into early next week.
