Heavy rain and heavy mountain snow tonight

Happy Saturday, Central Oregon!

More showers are heading our way tonight. When temperatures are mild, most precipitation falls as rain at lower altitudes. Rain could become heavy at times this evening into tomorrow morning, with minor flooding possible.

A winter storm warning goes into effect overnight for the east side of the Cascades, which will bring several more inches of snow to the mountains. Areas like La Pine, Sisters and Sunriver could also see a few centimeters.

You may want to delay driving on the mountain passes. Heavy snow and poor visibility make for difficult driving conditions. Due to strong winds, tees and power lines may fall.

There may be occasional showers on Sunday morning and then again in the afternoon. Things will begin to weaken starting tomorrow as an area of high pressure takes over later in the day. It should last until the end of the year and keep us dry.

Highs on Sunday will be in the low to mid 40s.

Cool and dry weather is expected on Monday and Tuesday. A scattered shower is possible on New Year’s Day, but overall it should be a quiet start to the new year.

Stay healthy and enjoy the weekend!
