Heavy rain, strong winds for Massachusetts due to strong storm during the week

GOOD, RIGHT. We digress. EXACTLY. IN ORDER. We look outside, still holding on with two hands to a bit of brightness and sunshine out there. BUT THE CLOUDS are moving in and getting thicker for the rest of the afternoon. BUT WE MANAGED TO REACH THE MIDDLE AND UPPER 40S IN MOST AREAS. However, make sure it is a little colder. AS THEY GO NORTH. It’s still only 34°C in Portland, Maine, and some of that colder air will flow downward and linger in the higher elevations as the next wave of moisture moves inward. So it’s mostly a rain event heading our way later today, but there will be just a small hint of wintry weather on the north side. BUT THIS IS ONLY THE FIRST OF TWO ROUNDS OF WET WEATHER THIS WEEK. Today is an active week at the latest. The rain, some icing in the north. THE SECOND ROUND IS WEDNESDAY AND THIS REALLY LOOKS LIKE A SOAKER, WITH 1 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN AND STRONG WINDS LIKELY TO BE OVER 50 mph ACROSS THE CAPE AND ISLANDS. SO YOU CAN SEE THE SYSTEM HERE IN THE WEST. THIS IS WHAT BRINGS RAIN LATER TODAY. BUT I WANT TO TAKE IT DOWN TOWARD THE GULF COAST BECAUSE THIS IS WHERE OUR WEDNESDAY RAINFALL WILL COME. AND IF WE EXPAND THE VIEW YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE IS A LITTLE TROPICAL CONNECTION HERE. AND THIS TROPICAL MOISTURE WILL ACTUALLY BE MOVING UP WITH A LOW PRESSURE AREA ACTING ON THIS FRONT. And so there will be maybe 1 to 3 inches of rain on Wednesday, which could lead to street flooding and also flooding with poor drainage. SO THE FIRST ROUND MOISTURE A QUARTER TO A HALF OF AN INCH. BUT YOU CAN SEE HOW THE RAIN TOTALS REALLY RISE ON WEDNESDAY. So that’s a lot of rain. The ground is partially frozen. So if there is intermittent heavy falling on Wednesday, there could be poor drainage, flooding and flooding on roads. Although we are still in severe to extreme drought across much of the state. So this rain is welcome, but on Wednesday it may come a little too hard and too fast. So that’s what we’re watching for the rest of the afternoon. There the clouds take over. You’ll see the rain move into the Boston area at 5:00 p.m. IT’S EVENING WITH US. BUT ALREADY THIS AFTERNOON AT 3:00 AM, WEST OF 495, THROUGH THE WORCESTER HILLS AND BACK ON ROUTE TWO NORTHWARD WITH ELEVATION. We’re just waiting for a little frosting. This will last until about 11pm or so. And then look, it’ll be gone in the morning. BUT IF YOU GET UP EARLY TOMORROW LOOK AT THE TEMPERATURES IN THE NORTH, THEY WILL BE HOVERING NEAR THE FREEZING MARK. THEREFORE ROAD crews may need to go out and repair the roads. If that’s not the case, you may come across a small piece of black ice tomorrow morning. WEATHER ADVISORY FOR WINTER HERE NORTH OF WORCESTER, HIGH IN THE ROUTE TWO CORRIDOR. AND THERE, AT THE HIGHEST ALTITUDES, WE COULD ONLY SEE A PIECE OF ICE AND UP TO AN INCH OF SNOW. BUT TONIGHT EVERYTHING WILL LESS OFF, WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 30S AND 40S. And tomorrow will be a calm day, mostly dry, mostly cloudy skies, although temperatures will be cool tomorrow. COLDER THAN TODAY. 1930s TO 1940s WHILE DRIVING DOWN TOWARD CAPE COD. WE WILL BE OBSERVING ON WEDNESDAY HUMIDITY BEGIN SHARES OF RAIN IN THE MORNING. YOU MAY NOTICE AT 6 AM THAT THE MORNING COMPUTER IS WET, BUT THEN THE INTENSITY INCREASE FROM NOON INTO THE AFTERNOON. It will rain heavily at times throughout the evening before it all tapers off on Wednesday evening. And when the wind comes up strong, you can see that the wind is increasing. WE’RE TALKING GUSTS NEAR ANDOVER, POSSIBLY 50 MPH ON CAPE COD. SO EFFECT OF WEATHER. ON WEDNESDAY THE MORNING DRIVING WILL BE A LITTLE WET, WITH GUSTY WINDS REALLY PICKING UP. LUNCH TO AFTERNOON. This is your period of greatest concern. Everything will subside on Wednesday evening and it will be dry again on Thursday. BUT COOLING WINDS BRING WARMTH ON WEDNESDAY. We will reach almost 60 degrees, but the cooling will not be enough. We’re back in the 30s, but the weather here is dry again. UNTIL THE END OF THE WEEK. So we need the precipitation. BUT THAT’S A LO
