Heavy snow and gusty winds are expected from Wednesday evening into Thursday

As one lake-effect snow event comes to an end, West Michigan’s attention turns to another.

An arctic front is expected to move through the region on Wednesday evening.

Here’s what West Michiganders can expect:

Heavy snow and gusty winds are expected as the front moves through.

Snow could quickly cover the roadways on Wednesday evening and significantly reduce visibility.

In addition, the wind shifts from the northwest and remains gusty at times behind the front.

This will allow the lake effect machine to start up again Wednesday night and Thursday.

Additionally, heavy snow combined with gusty winds could lead to whiteout conditions at times.

Specifically, snowfall and blowing snow could make traveling significantly more difficult, especially near the lakeshore, on Wednesday night and Thursday night.

The winter storm watch should be issued:

A winter storm watch goes into effect Wednesday evening and lasts until late Thursday night for our western counties.

Widespread snow amounts of 3 to 8 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts where strong lake effect bands develop.

Thursday morning will be the coldest air we’ve felt all season.

Temperatures will likely be in the upper teens and low 20s, but factoring in the wind, it will feel much colder.

Wind chills are expected to be in the single digits Thursday morning, with some wind chills below freezing possible.
