Boise State Star running back and Heisman Trophy hopeful Ashton Jeanty helped the Broncos punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff with another incredible performance in the Mountain West championship game on Friday night.

But his first thought wasn’t how another 200-yard game would improve his Heisman chances. It was his faith.

“The way he moved through this team and blessed us – God’s favor is upon us.”

Jeanty, who confirmed Friday’s title game would be his last at Boise State before entering next year’s NFL Draft, has spoken openly about his faith and the role it plays in his life. In an interview Earlier this season, Jeanty spoke about the “ultimate transformation” he underwent and how he attributed that change to his faith.

“I like to say that I’m a Christian who cleverly disguises himself as an All-American running back,” he said at the time. “I learned that God has blessed me with amazing talents. I was just able to do a lot of great things with it, but at the same time I didn’t lose myself in it and understood that my identity is in Christ.” “

Jeanty ran for 209 yards and a 75-yard touchdown to increase his total to 2,497, just 132 yards shy of the all-time FBS record. The title game was also his sixth game this season in which he rushed for over 200 yards.

But for Jeanty, Friday’s victory was always a team effort.

“That means everything. That’s everything we’ve worked for and to get here and achieve it, you have to give credit to the team – offense, defense, special teams coming together tonight.”

“It’s amazing, it’s a dream come true,” he continued. “I love this team. I love the way we came together, the connection and love we have is stronger than anything.”

Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter is the Heisman Trophy frontrunner, but the Buffaloes were eliminated from the Big 12 championship game and will not appear in the playoffs. Ballots will be cast well before the CFP begins, but Boise State coach Spencer Danielson believes Jeanty has already earned it.

“As far as the Heisman goes, I ask all voters to just look at the film and the stats,” Danielson said. “This will show you that he is the best football player in the country… If you are a Heisman candidate, you should play in a championship game. And seeing what he did for his team in a championship game also speaks volumes.”
