Heisman Trophy 2024: Finalists will be announced before the awards ceremony

Ahead of Saturday’s ceremony, the four Heisman Trophy finalists were announced.

Following Andre Ware’s unveiling of these players tonight on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown,” Oregon Dillon Gabriel, Colorado Travis Hunter, Boise State Ashton Jeanty and Miami Cam Ward is your finalist for the biggest award in all of college football come fall. Now one of those four will be the newest member of the trophy community, arriving in New York City this weekend.

Here’s how these finalists compare with each other before the trophy presentation:

Gabriel, the quarterback of Oregon’s top-ranked and last undefeated team, will be attending the ceremony in his sixth collegiate season, but first in Eugene.

Gabriel posted a 73.2% completion percentage, a career-high 3,558 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions and second-best in the sport this season. That means the Ducks are still undefeated after winning the Big Ten Championship before being considered the top seed in the College Football Playoff.

Travis Hunter was a sensation this season with the snaps he took on both sides of the ball. One of the best receivers in all of college football, he caught 92 passes for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns. Then on defense he had 32 tackles, 11 deflections, four interceptions and a forced fumble on a corner.

All of this makes Hunter one of the main favorites to win the Heisman Trophy this weekend.

Jeanty had one of the best rushing seasons ever this fall as he surpassed his performances from his previous two seasons in Boise. He has passed for 2,497 yards and 29 touchdowns on 344 carries, amounting to 192.1 per game and 7.3 per touch, and is the country’s leading rusher with over 800 yards, just 131 yards shy of Barry Sanders’ record in one season.

Now, after that historic single season, while also leading the Broncos to the College Football Playoff after winning the Mountain West Championship, Jeanty is in the running to win the Heisman.

Miami QB Cam Ward

Cam Ward may have had a better chance of winning this award if he did something early in the season. Still, Ward had one of his better quarterback years this fall while on his own at The ‘U.

Ward, who led the No. 1 offense in college football with 44.2 ppg, had his best season in the FBS, completing 67.4% of his passes for 4,123 yards, a nation-leading 36 touchdowns and seven interceptions completed. That helped the Hurricanes have their best season since 2003 – although they still didn’t make the playoffs at 10-2.
