Heisman Trophy odds: Betting favorites to win after Week 13 of college football

As the calendar turns to December, Heisman Trophy Voters create their list and check it twice.

Luckily, unlike Santa’s naughty and nice list, there are a number of people worthy of hoisting the famous 45-pound bronze statue John Heisman Next month looks to be pretty concise, at least according to the latest Heisman Trophy odds from DraftKings Sportsbook.

Less than two weeks before Heisman votes are due, oddsmakers in Las Vegas are revealing a two-way race between a unique two-way threat Colorado Corner/Receiver Travis Hunter against a dynamic, reserved playmaker with historic pace Boise State‘S Ashton Jeanty. Check out DraftKing’s updated Heisman Trophy odds below:

A week after slipping into negative territory as the favorite to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy, Hunter saw his chances improve even further despite No. 25 Colorado’s 37-21 road loss at Kansas on Saturday. Odds aside, it’s clear that the college football world is eager to see a non-quarterback reclaim the Heisman after quarterbacks have won the award 12 times in the last 14 years.

And considering Hunter’s two-way prowess, which compares him to college football Hall of Famers like Champ Bailey and Desmond Howard, Hunter has clearly captured the zeitgeist of the college football world this season. That includes Hunter being named a finalist for three national awards on Tuesday, finishing in the top three for Bednarik (Defensive Player of the Year), Biletnikoff (Top Receiver) and Maxwell (Overall Player of the Year) awards.

In any other year, Jeanty would be the clear favorite to win the Heisman Trophy based solely on his record-breaking season on the ground. Through 11 games, Jeanty leads all of college football with a Boise State record 2,062 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns – 570 yards and six touchdowns more than the next lowest tailback this season.

In fact, at his current pace of 187.45 rushing yards per game, Jeanty is just three games and 567 yards away from surpassing the record Barry SandersJeanty became the first college running back to surpass 2,000 yards receiving since Alabama Derrick Henry in his Heisman-winning 2015 campaign, and he accomplished it with one game left in the regular season (unlike Henry, who accomplished the feat in the postseason that year). Suffice it to say, Jeanty should book his ticket to New York City for next month’s Heisman ceremony.

While the current odds make it a little difficult for Ward to win the award, he should still receive the coveted invitation to NYC to be one of the usual three contenders at the Heisman Trophy ceremony. And the former Washington State Transfer more than deserves it considering what he achieved on the field.

After electing to forgo the NFL Draft last spring and instead transfer to Miami, Ward was sensational in his first season in Coral Gables, ranking first nationally with 34 passing touchdowns and second with 3,774 yards on 268 of 399 passes (67.2%). ). Should the Hurricanes continue to win and possibly even tee off behind Ward’s strong right arm and clutch play? SMU To win the ACC Championship next week, expect to see the Miami QB in the Big Apple in two weeks.

With another significant jump in betting odds, Gabriel is a clear hope of even getting an invite to NYC. Of course he doesn’t deserve it. Much like Ward, the well-traveled Gabriel was a revelation after arriving in Eugene this offseason as a sixth-grader and leading the Ducks to a perfect 11-0 record with a chance to go even better in their first season in the Big Ten .

Not the offensive dynamo of Duck’s predecessor Bo NixGabriel still leads the country’s only undefeated program a week before the start of the regular season. In doing so, Gabriel gained 3,066 passing yards and ranked second in the league with a 73.8% completion rate and 28 total touchdowns.

Howard, an even longer underdog, is a Heisman candidate, primarily for his position as quarterback of arguably college football’s most talented team. A transfer from Kansas StateA steady hand, Howard led the Buckeyes’ extremely talented offense, which was filled with a roster of future NFL stars.

Although his stats aren’t off the charts, Howard leads all of college football with a 74% completion rate (208 of 281 passes) for 2,685 yards and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 26 to 6 along with one in the Big Ten leading quarterback rating of 180.5 and 33 total touchdowns.
