Helldivers 2’s first crossover is officially Killzone 2 and the DLC is available now

After leaking earlier this week, Helldivers 2 is officially getting a crossover with PlayStation sci-fi shooter Killzone 2. The first cosmetic items for the multiplayer shooter are available starting today.

Helldivers 2 will feature two waves of Killzone 2 content, with the first containing cosmetic items including a Helghan uniform for your freedom-loving soldier, a StA-52 assault rifle and a selection of capes, banners and player titles. This is the first crossover of its kind in Helldivers 2, after developer Arrowhead said he was open to the idea if it “makes sense.” Given the two games’ shared genres, Killzone seems like a good fit.

In a blog post, developer Arrowhead emphasized that this content belongs to a new premium content tier. The new weapon costs 615 Super Credits, about $6-7, while the individual pieces of armor cost 310-500 Super Credits each.

With the release of the first wave of Killzone 2 cosmetics, Arrowhead also stated that it is testing longer rotations in the game’s Superstore. “Right now, many of you feel like items are out for too short a period of time and that you’re sometimes missing out on the stunning look you’ve been eyeing,” the post reads. “At the same time, the more items we add to the store, the longer it will take to get it back into rotation.”

This means this first wave of cosmetics will be available for five days, while the second batch will arrive on December 23rd for the same period. Arrowhead says it will then revert to shorter rotation times as player feedback is used to determine whether the experiment produced better results or not.

This Killzone 2 crossover comes hot on the heels of a major update to Helldivers 2 less than a week ago. The Omens of Tyranny update introduced the zombie-like Illuminate faction to the shooter, as well as new urban environments in which to wage skirmishes. It capped a big year for the Arrowhead sequel, which was the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, selling over 12 million copies in its first three months on the market.
