Here’s a timeline of everything that’s happened so far

The case of Hannah Kobayashi, a 30-year-old woman from Hawaii who the Los Angeles Police Department says disappeared “voluntarily” in early November, has drawn widespread national attention as her family and supporters try to find out exactly what happened to her .

December 11 marks exactly one month since Kobayashi’s family last heard from her.

Here is a detailed timeline of events and updates Kobayashi’s family and the LAPD have released since then.

November 8th: Both Kobayashi and her ex-boyfriend are flying from Maui to New York with a stopover in Los Angeles. Kobayashi’s ex-boyfriend boards the flight to New York, while Kobayashi tells her family that she missed the connection.

November 9th: Kobayashi texts her family telling them that she is sightseeing in Los Angeles and visiting the Grove Mall and downtown LA

November 10th: Kobayashi visits the Grove again for a Nike event. She is filmed at the event and later uploads a photo from the event to her public Instagram account.

Kobayashi also sent money through Venmo to two people unknown to her family — transactions that Yahoo News was able to verify because Kobayashi’s Venmo account is public.

November 11th: Kobayashi tells her aunt Larie Pidgeon that she is returning to LAX for a new flight to New York. According to an interview Pidgeon gave to USA Today, Kobayashi spoke with an American Airlines agent sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. local time. But she never boarded the flight.

In other media interviews, several family members have described Kobayashi’s texts from that day as strange and out of character. She allegedly told her relatives that she had been “hacked” and “tricked” into giving money to “someone I thought I loved.”

One of her last text messages allegedly said: “I just had a very intense spiritual awakening. I’m heading back to the airport to get to NYC. “I might need some help getting there.” This was the last day Kobayashi is known to have communicated with her family and friends.

November 12th: Kobayashi’s family files a missing persons report in California. According to Kobayashi’s family, her father Ryan was also flying from Hawaii to Los Angeles at this time to help search for her.

November 15th: The Los Angeles Police Department posted on Facebook about Kobayashi’s disappearance.

November 17th: Kobayashi’s sister Sydni issued a statement saying that on the night of November 11, the family saw surveillance footage of Kobayashi walking around the subway station in downtown Los Angeles.

November 21st: A group of volunteers – including Kobayashi’s father Ryan – are canvassing downtown L.A., putting up posters of Kobayashi just blocks from where she is believed to have been last seen.

November 23rd: In an interview with NewsNation, Pidgeon says Kobayashi sent her mother a detailed itinerary for her stay in New York, including places she wanted to eat, museums she wanted to visit and a photography assignment “that has always been there.” was on her wish list.” .” Pidgeon also claimed that Kobayashi said she also paid “a few thousand dollars” for a hotel reservation.

November 24th: Kobayashi’s father Ryan is found dead in a parking lot near Los Angeles International Airport around 4 a.m. The coroner’s office later confirmed that he died by suicide.

November 26th: At a Police Commission meeting, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said that Kobayashi “missed her connecting flight from LAX to New York, which the investigation indicates was intentional.”

November 30th: Kobayashi’s sister Sydni and her mother released a statement on Facebook in response to McDonnell’s statement, denying the claim “that Hannah intentionally missed her flight.”

Dec 2nd: At a news conference, McDonnell said that the LAPD “reviewed U.S. Customs and Border Protection video surveillance that clearly shows Kobayashi crossing the U.S. border on foot into Mexico.” She was alone with her luggage and appeared unharmed be.”

According to some news outlets, there was a post on the “Help Us Find Hannah” Facebook group – a private page with over 25,000 members – that said the family would close the Facebook group and no longer respond to messages the case.
