Who will be Liga MX champions in 2024?

That will be decided on Sunday evening when two teams not expected to go this far, Monterrey and Club América, face each other for the second time in a few days.

The game between Monterrey and América will be broadcast on TUDN and Univision starting at 8:00 p.m. ET. You can also stream it live on fubo TV (FREE trial) and DirecTV Stream (on demand, FREE trial and discount).

Alejandro Zendejas scored the 49th-minute winner for Club América in their 2-1 win over Monterrey in the first leg of the Liga MX final on Thursday.

The game took place at the Estadio Cuauhtemoc in Puebla, Club América’s temporary home for the championship series.

Monterrey took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute after Sergio Canales took advantage of a rare open space left by a defensive Club América. The midfielder shot from distance to give Los Rayados the lead.

Las Aguilas reacted quickly as a counterattack led to a scramble in the 18-yard area for a loose ball. Full-back Kevin Álvarez shot the ball into the net in the 39th minute, leveling the game at 1-1.

Monterrey took the lead for good in the 49th minute when midfielder Álvaro Fidalgo ran forward with the ball before catching Zendejas with a precise, line-splitting pass. The winger shot to the goalkeeper to make it 2-1, and it stayed that way.

If Club América wins, they will become the first to win three straight championships in Liga MX’s short-season era. The title would also take the league’s all-time trophy tally to 16, four more than Chivas.
