Aside from a 31-point, 10-assist performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday, Stephen Curry’s recent form has been well below what we’re normally used to from the Golden State Warriors superstar.

Curry managed just 10 points on 2 of 13 shooting at home against the Indiana Pacers on Monday, with the visitors coming to Chase Center and defeating a Warrior team whose offense faltered at one point in the fourth quarter.

Even against the Memphis Grizzlies last Thursday, the two-time MVP was only able to score two points in 24 minutes as he failed to make a single field goal for the first time in a game in which he played longer than 12 minutes.

Curry acknowledged he needs to play much better after Monday’s loss to the Pacers, as the 36-year-old has averaged 21.8 points so far this season after posting 29.4 and 26 in each of the last two years .4 per game.

He’ll have the opportunity to face the Los Angeles Lakers in a marquee game at Chase Center on Christmas Day, but history shows the 10-time All-Star isn’t particularly fond of the notable occasion.

Curry particularly struggled in Christmas Day games, having played 10 such games since 2010. He averaged just 15.4 points in those games, with notably only one performance scoring more than 19 points – that was in 2021, where he had 33 points. four rebounds and six assists in a 116-107 win over the Phoenix Suns.

Given Curry’s struggles, it’s no surprise that the Warriors have struggled in Christmas Day games for the past 15 years. They have a solid but not great record of 7-6 in 13 games since 2010, but three of those actually came when Curry was sidelined with injury.

If Curry wants to look at the bright side of history, perhaps he can look at his recent performances against the Lakers. The veteran guard averaged 33 points on 52/48/86 shooting in four games against the Pacific rival last season, including a 46-point outburst in an overtime doubleheader that the Warriors actually lost in late January.

More than his own individual form, Curry will be hoping Golden State returns to a winning feeling after 10 losses in its last 13 games. LeBron James, Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell are all questionable for the Lakers, while Gary Payton II is also questionable for the Warriors on an otherwise clear injury report.
