“Hit one on target and…”: Mitchell Starc on defeating Yashasvi Jaiswal after a ‘too slow’ taunt

“Hit one on target and…”: Mitchell Starc on defeating Yashasvi Jaiswal after a ‘too slow’ taunt

Mitchell Starc finally got his revenge when he dismissed India’s opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal on the first ball of the Adelaide Test. The battle between Starc and Jaiswal got pretty heated in the first Test in Perth when the Indian left-hander mocked the left-arm seamer and said he was bowling “too slow”. However, Starc eventually got the upper hand when he put the ball back in play on the first toss of the pink ball Test.

As a result, Jaiswal was sent back to the hut without affecting the results and India lost a wicket on the opening toss of the Test. Speaking to ABC Sport after stumps on day one, the veteran Australian pacer said it was a “nice way” to start the game.

“Good start to the game. One shot on goal and off we go,” said Starc.

Mitchell Starc eventually took six wickets and recorded the best bowling figures of his career. His performance helped Australia defeat India by 180 in the first innings.

The pacer dismissed the likes of Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

“I just think it was a good day all around. I think I’ve said it before. I think we were probably just a fraction of that in the first hour where they climbed in a little bit. And we probably got a few that we weren’t too happy with,” Starc said.

“But I think after that first hour we were pretty good with the ball. And then throwing them out the way we did was a good start, and I think, you know, in tough times, with that kind of thing “Under the lights, with the new pink ball and with a good attack, I think our top three were fantastic tonight,” he added.

Australia is firmly at the top

At stumps, Australia reached a score of 86/1 on the first day and were still 94 runs behind. Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne are in the goal area for the hosts.

Nathan McSweeney is unbeaten on 38 runs while Marnus Labuschagne is batting on 20 runs. The right-hander Marnus faced heavy criticism for his performances in the longest format last year.

Defending Marnus, Starc said: “Yes, he (Marnus) hit 1000 balls a lot of outside noise but they fought like they did last session.

“Probably the toughest session in pink-ball cricket is the final session with, as you know, a quality bowling attack with the new pink ball. It’s fantastic to see and hopefully they can continue tomorrow,” he added.

Australia have a phenomenal record in pink-ball Tests and the hosts will be hoping to cash in on day two of the Adelaide game against India.
