Hoosiers fail on the CFP stage

SOUTH BEND — Indiana’s remarkable, historic season ended quietly on Friday night with a 27-17 loss at Notre Dame in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Here’s how the Hoosiers performed:

ATTACK: D-

Even facing a strong road defense, No. 8 Indiana (11-2) never had the edge here. Kurtis Rourke seemed uneasy even before the Irish applied pressure and never really recovered from his early interception. None of the Hoosiers’ usual tricks to make him comfortable worked. At the end of the game, he passed open receivers to throw to covered receivers. The most fundamental goal of an offense must be to put its best players in the positions that will help them most succeed. That didn’t happen Friday…until the final minutes, when IU scored 14 points in the final minutes.
