Looking back on the past

When Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Marisa Baez (Marisa Ramirez) began an investigation into the shooting of Supreme Court Justice Barbara Carson, they quickly realized that the perpetrator could be someone from their past.

After investigators discovered a hostage video featuring Barbara, they saw a reflection of the shooter when they zoomed in on sunglasses. They identified the shooter as Carlos Ramírez (Manny Perez), who fans may remember was previously arrested after attempting to escape with his daughter Amelia during a heated altercation at a helipad earlier this season.

Realizing that Amelia could be in danger in her father’s hands, investigators tried to track her down and were almost shot in the process. After shooting their would-be assassin, Danny intercepted a call from Ramírez. When the criminal threatened him, Danny reminded him, “You did this all by yourself. You’re putting your daughter in danger now.”

However, Ramírez didn’t go down without another swipe. “You put her in danger, just like you did your wife,” he said, referring to his late wife Linda Rose Reagan, who died in a helicopter crash, before adding: “You pretend “To be a family man, but you do everything for one.” win. Not this time.”

The exchange strengthened Danny’s resolve to bring Ramírez to justice. With the help of Detective Anthony Abetemarco (Steve Schirripa), they found out where the criminal was with his daughter. Ramírez was about to be arrested and turned his gun on himself before Danny stopped him out of consideration for his daughter.

After the arrest, Danny’s grandfather Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) reminded him of all the people he had saved by chasing criminals and how he always told him not to “take the job home with you.” However, his grandfather added, “But the problem now is that you don’t have anyone to take it home to… Promise me, when this case is over, you’ll find someone.”

Danny later followed his grandfather’s advice and invited his partner Marisa out for pizza.

A death of one’s own

The second shootout in the episode claimed the life of Officer Luis Badillo (Ian Quinlan), who was shot by a motorcyclist while responding to a carjacking with his partner Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray).

As Eddie recovered in the hospital after being hit by a bullet, she feared that one of her bullets might accidentally hit her partner in the standoff. Her husband Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) was visited in the hospital by his nephew Joe Hill (Will Hochman), who had information about one of the shooters, Amelio Mars.

When Jamie seemed hesitant to join him in the search for the perpetrator, his nephew reminded him that “it’s all hands on deck out there” and his help is needed. With that, they ran to Amelio’s apartment, where they found his pregnant girlfriend, who claimed not to know anything about his whereabouts.

When they later inquired and found out that his girlfriend had gone into labor, they realized that even a criminal wouldn’t miss the birth of their child. They found Amelio making silly faces at his newborn baby at the nursery window. Eddie then stepped in and arrested him using her late partner’s handcuffs.

At Badillo’s funeral, the commissioner reminded Badillo’s mother: “Please take a good look around. “Luis’ whole family is with you today,” before Eddie handed his son his police hat.

Key to the city

After the mayor was injured in a motorcyclist drive-by shooting, Frank Reagan visited him in the operating room before his operation. Surprisingly, the mayor advised him to break the succession plan and take control, saying, “I’ll give you the keys, you drive. Get us out of there.”

After considering the mayor’s opinion, Frank realized he needed to continue doing his job with a “personal touch” and implored his colleagues to look into the shooter’s connection – possibly a brother or uncle – to the prison system that they could “lean on” to figure out where this guy might be going.”

He added: “I want to be there when we bring this guy in.”

After identifying the mayor’s shooter as Alandro Bautista, the head of the DA’s office, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan), asked her ex-husband Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann) to stick his neck out to get her information about the suspect’s jailhouse informant father . Despite his hesitation, Jack said he would do it for her.

With Jack’s help, Frank contacted Alandro Bautista’s father Lorenzo Bautista (Edward James Olmos) behind bars and asked where they could find his son. However, Lorenzo was upset that Frank wanted him to “betray” his son and told him, “When you look in the mirror, you see yourself with a white hat.” You think you’re the good one. “

The commissioner then cracked down and threatened Lorenzo’s role as an informant, which reinstated him into the prison’s general population without any special privileges unless he revealed his son’s whereabouts to them before committing to the story of his late son Joe remembered.

“I had a son who was actually killed by police, and he was about the age of your son Alejandro, and if someone said to me before it happened, ‘That’s your choice.’ “We can kill him now or he can spend the rest of his life in prison,” he said. “I’ll tell you what, I wouldn’t bat an eyelid.”

He continued: “I’ve been up there in prison every chance I get, with a bag of hamburgers for us and a deck of cards so we could spend time together, just drinking gin and shooting the bull, and I look forward to it. “Be there and eternally grateful for the opportunity, for I know the cold darkness that the other choice brings.”

After the conversation, Lorenzo had apparently changed his mind about protecting his son’s location, as the commissioner later informed the mayor that Alandro had been arrested at a furniture store.

Meanwhile, Jack personally asked Erin whether her father Frank would now “forget his grudge” against him after their separation. But she said her father never held a grudge – instead, “he became cold to hide his pain.”

Erin then reminded Jack that despite their failed marriage, they “work well together,” adding, “Despite our best efforts, we’re still here, one foot in, one foot out.” Maybe we’ll try with both feet in )?”

“Get married again?” He replied and she added, “Everyone deserves a second chance, right? Maybe we’ll give each other a break? I mean, this time everything would be different. Party of 2, town hall? Tell everyone about it afterwards.” Then he pulled her to him and kissed her.

How it ends

At a family dinner after the funeral, Eddie and Jamie surprised everyone by bringing a high chair to the table and announcing that they were expecting a baby. However, they didn’t plan to find out the gender in advance.

“Whether it’s him or her, if I may, they’re going to be really happy to be a part of this family,” Joe said during the ceremony.

Erin and Jack refrained from sharing the news of their reunion at the dinner table, instead discussing the charges against Badillo’s murderer.

The episode ended with Frank saying, “You know, we have a lot to be thankful for. And as I look around his table, I have to say, “I couldn’t be prouder and more grateful,” before leading the family in prayer.
