How Mac Jones is changing the mood in Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Jaguars entered the season with a quality plan in case starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence missed time. Although quarterback Mac Jones isn’t of the same caliber as Lawrence, he is undoubtedly a legitimate backup quarterback option in the National Football League.

After starting quarterback for three seasons with the New England Patriots, Jones was traded to the Jaguars last offseason. He spent most of the season sitting behind the team’s established starter, Trevor Lawrence.

However, due to several injuries to Lawrence this season, Jones is in the starting lineup for the remainder of the season. The veteran plans to take things one day at a time.

“I just take it one day at a time,” Jones said. “Today it starts at training and I’m just where I am.” That’s in the games, that’s in practice, that’s everything in between. I think that’s when I’m at my best when I’m just going out there, having fun and throwing around, and that’s what I’m going to continue to do. But really, just go back to that mindset of just playing one game at a time.

“I think sometimes you put so much emphasis on one particular play in a game, and really they’re just plays. You can’t see it whether it’s the first drive of the game or the last drive. You got this.’ You just have to go out there and play and do your job. If you do your job on the play, then that’s really all you can ask of yourself.”

Since his return to the starting line-up Jones has had some solid performances that led to one win for the Jaguars and almost led to another. Jones’ personality and steady play over the last few weeks have proven how much he has developed during his time with the Jaguars.

“I think we’ve had some good results here as far as moving the ball and like you said, we’re having fun, the guys are making plays and really not letting a play turn into a snowball effect,” Jones said .

“So, we’re just taking it one play at a time and taking it easy whether we did something good or something bad in the first series. You have to play every play, like I always said. I think that’s definitely the case.” I think that suits the personalities in the room, me and the coaches. It hasn’t been the best season so far, but we’re still striving for perfection, staying relaxed and trying to win. ”
