When does winter weather start?

A winter storm will hit Arkansas as early as the early hours of Thursday morning. So that begs the question: When can you expect snow at your home?

Impacts are expected around 9 a.m. over western portions of Arkansas, with snow developing throughout the day. It is important to note that precipitation may initially appear as rain or sleet before transitioning to pure snow.

Snow is expected to cover most of Arkansas during the later morning hours of Thursday.

How much snow is expected from the storm?

Many across the state are wondering how much snowfall we will see… and the answer is that it varies depending on the region of Arkansas where you live.

Heavy snowfall is possible across much of central Arkansas, with up to 4 to 8 inches expected in this area, with isolated larger snow accumulations.

Most of the state will see mostly snow, but portions of south and southeast Arkansas could see significant icing with sleet and freezing rain, which could cause complications. Additionally, rain is also possible in the southeasternmost portion of Arkansas.

As with any winter weather scenario, there will be some minor changes in timing, type and amounts of precipitation.
