Howard County Government will close January 1st for the New Year’s holiday

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Government Offices, Courts, 50+ Howard County Centers, Animal Shelter, Alpha Ridge Landfill, Cedar Lane and Schooley Mill Activity Rooms, Gary J. Arthur, North Laurel and Roger Carter Community Centers, Meadowbrook Athletic Complex, Robinson Nature Center , Harriet Tubman Cultural Center, Kiwanis-Wallas Hall, Baltimore & Ohio Ellicott City Station Museum and county historic sites will be closed Wednesday, January 1, in observance of the New Year’s holiday.

Because there will be no curbside trash, recycling, yard clippings or food scraps collection on New Year’s Day, the county’s holiday “slide” schedule will be in effect the remainder of the week, with pickup Wednesday moving to Thursday, Thursday moving to Friday and Friday The county park gates will be open until Saturday, but there will be no staff on duty.

On New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, December 31, the Gary J. Arthur, North Laurel and Roger Carter Community Centers and the Harriet Tubman Cultural Center will close at 5:00 p.m. Additionally, the Baltimore & Ohio Ellicott City Station Museum closes at 3:00 p.m

Regional Transportation Agency (RTA) buses will not operate on January 1st. For more information about RTA, call 1-800-270-9553 or visit www.transitrta.com. Additionally, parking fees will not be charged in Howard County starting January 1st.

The 9-1-1 center, police and fire departments remain staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For emergencies, call 9-1-1; For non-emergency emergencies, please call 410-313-2200.

County operations will resume during regular business hours on Thursday, January 2nd.

  • The Harriet Tubman Cultural Center closes at 5:00 p.m
