Hudson Joseph Meek’s death is being investigated as an accident: report

A new report says Hudson Joseph Meek’s death does not appear to have been caused by a crime and is being investigated as an accident.

Law enforcement sources reportedly told TMZ that they consider the 16-year-old star’s tragic death to be an accident. The sources also reportedly told the outlet that there were no signs that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Meek, best known for his role in the 2017 film Baby Driver, passed away on December 21st after sustaining injuries in a fall from a moving vehicle in his hometown of Vestavia Hills on the evening of December 19th had sustained blunt force, Ala.

The Jefferson County, Alabama, coroner confirmed to CBS News that the circumstances surrounding Meek’s death are being investigated by Vestavia Hills police.

The Post has contacted police and the coroner.

Meek’s mother, Lani Wells Meek, posted about her son’s death on her Facebook page shortly after his death.

“It breaks our hearts to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” she wrote.

“His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and made a significant impact on everyone he met.”

An obituary for the young actor said: “He was surrounded by friends, family and the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

“Hudson was an organ donor and his family is comforted to know that he will continue to help others for years to come.”

“Hudson was also an accomplished actor,” his obituary added. “He has worked on several major feature films and television shows, some of which will be released in theaters in 2025. He absolutely loved spending time on set and having the opportunity to learn the names and stories of each member of the cast and crew.”

In addition to his role as Young Baby in the Oscar-nominated “Baby Driver,” he also guest-starred in the Emmy-nominated TV revival of “MacGyver” and booked voice actors for commercials for Toys R Us, McDonald’s and the online video game “MacGyver.” League of Legends.”

“Hudson’s personality was unique. He was self-confident, convinced of his convictions, spontaneous and quick-witted,” the obituary statement continues. “He never let the facts get in the way of a funny story, and he loved friendly banter.”

Outside of acting, Meek had an active school life. As a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, he played on his school’s football team, sang in the Honor Choir and was part of student government.

Outside the circuit, he earned an advanced open water diving certification at age 14 and has visited all 50 states.

Meek is survived by his parents, brother, grandmothers, aunts and uncles.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama.

According to his obituary, the service will be available via livestream on his Instagram account or on his mother’s Facebook page.

After his death, the actor’s family established the Hudson J. Meek Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded each year to a Vestavia Hills High School student. According to Meek’s obituary, the family is asking people to donate to the fund in lieu of flowers.
