Hulk Hogan drowned in boos during the Netflix debut of WWE Monday Night Raw

The WWE has achieved unprecedented levels of popularity, largely thanks to a number of legends and superstars breaking into mainstream pop culture. At some point, Hulk Hogan was one of those stars, but the boos he received during that time Monday Night Raw The debut on Netflix suggests that his transgressions are too serious for his legacy to overcome.

The Raw The debut on Netflix took place on Monday night (January 6) at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. Several WWE legends such as The Rock, John Cena and The Undertaker all appeared on screen in some capacity and were greeted like heroes. However, Hulkster appeared to be in enemy territory. He entered the arena alongside WWE Hall of Fame manager Jimmy Hart to greet the crowd, celebrate the Netflix partnership and promote his new beverage company, Real American Beer.

“I’ve had a whole series of partners in the past,” said the 71-year-old. “I had incredible partners like macho man Randy Savage. I had huge partners like Andre the Giant. But the greatest partner WWE has ever had is the fact that we’re making history tonight and WWE has teamed up with Netflix, the greatest tag team partner of all time.” While he was heard quite clearly, were the boos were just as audible whether you were in the arena or watching the live stream on Netflix. So how did Hulk Hogan go from beloved Hulkamania to unwanted elder at the family gathering? Well, it started in 2015 when footage of him using racial slurs surfaced in 2007. WWE reacted quickly and removed him from their Hall of Fame for a few years before reinstating him in 2018. Hogan has had significantly less of a presence in the company since then, rarely appearing on reunion episodes or Wrestlemania.

He made his path to reconciliation with fans even more difficult in 2024 when he proudly supported President-elect Donald Trump on his path to re-election. The six-time WWE Champion performed at the Republican National Convention and was seen wearing MAGA merchandise at several locations. While he’s not the only WWE Superstar to ever align himself with the Republican Party or Donald Trump, he’s certainly the one who’s received the most negative backlash for doing so. Threatening to body slam Vice President Kamala Harris didn’t help his case.

Aside from Hulk Hogan drowning in boos, that Monday Night Raw The debut on Netflix was a complete success. In the sold-out arena with 17,000 spectators, Roman Reigns defeated Solo Sikoa in Tribal Combat, Rhea Ripley won the Women’s World Championship over Liv Morgan, Jey Uso defeated Drew McIntyre and CM Punk defeated Seth Rollins in the main event. John Cena, who will retire at the end of 2025, also announced that he will compete at the Royal Rumble at the premium live event of the same name on Saturday, February 1 in Indianapolis. Travis Scott, Wale and other celebrities were also in attendance. Check out highlights from the show below.
