Hunter Biden’s confident demeanor in an unearthed video raises questions about his father’s pardon plans

An unearthed video showing Hunter Biden smiling and displaying a confident demeanor while being pressed about a possible pardon raises questions about when his father made the decision to pardon his son.

President Biden has said repeatedly throughout the year that he would not pardon his son or interfere in the criminal process. Despite this repeated stance, Hunter Biden maintained a confident demeanor even as he faced a maximum sentence of 17 years in federal prison.

A 30-second video obtained by Fox News Digital shows Hunter wryly smiling and walking away after being pressed about whether he was “expecting a pardon” while leaving a restaurant in Malibu, California, on July 31, 2024.

The video was recorded after Hunter Biden was convicted of three felonies related to the illegal purchase of a firearm and shortly before he pleaded guilty to tax evasion. He is seen leaving Cholada Thai Cuisine on Topanga Beach, north of Los Angeles, with his longtime friend and defender, Oscar-winning actor and director Sean Penn.

The man recording the video asks, “Hunter, how are you?” to which he simply replies, “Great, man.”

The man then asks, “Hunter, are you expecting a pardon?” Hunter Biden doesn’t answer, but immediately smiles broadly when a woman who appears to be a Secret Service agent steps between the two.

The man goes on to ask, “Is that something you can answer?” to which Biden’s son continues to smile silently as he gets into a black vehicle.

On June 11, a federal court in Delaware convicted Hunter Biden of lying on a federal investigation form and to a gun dealer about being a drug addict and having a firearm while being a drug addict. Ahead of his trial on tax evasion charges, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty on September 5 to three felonies and two misdemeanors for failing to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019.

After the sentencing in June, the president was asked if he had ruled out pardoning his son, to which he replied “yes.” During the G7 summit in Washington, DC, he further told reporters: “I will abide by the jury’s decision. I will do that. And I won’t pardon him.”

Then, on Sunday evening, the president fully and unconditionally pardoned his son for those crimes, as well as for any he “may have committed or been involved in” from January 1, 2014 to December 1, 2024.

Biden claimed that his son was being “singled out” and that “cruel politics have infected this process and led to a miscarriage of justice.”

“The prosecution in his cases came only after several of my political opponents in Congress incited them to attack me and oppose my election,” he said. “It is clear that Hunter was treated differently.”

Hunter Biden’s sentencing was scheduled for December 16.
