Huskers first half recap – Goofy but ahead: NEBRASKA 13 Boston College 2 Matt Rhule Dylan Raiola

It was my first trip ever to Yankee Stadium, and of course I made it in December to see the Huskers. Why? Because nothing else would make sense.

But the Huskers’ first trip to Yankee Stadium since 1962?

For a group whose path has not only been crossed by black cats, but has also been exploited, pissed on, and shit on by black cats over the last decade or so, this makes perfect sense. However, instead of dwelling and wondering which Haitian voodoo priests offended them this time, they are up 13-2 in a game that should have been 14-0 had they not decided to “return blocked extra point for two.” to add to their strange pile of atrocities.

We’ll take it.

A game that threatened to go into halftime at 7-0 with zero punts and three & outs still managed to go into halftime at 13-2. And the three & outs were a formality, as the Huskers committed Eagle turnovers on downs on their final three possessions – on the last of which they allowed a chip-shot field goal that would have made it a one-score game .

But I argue.

Dylan Raiola had a mostly efficient first half, going 11-16 for 132 yards and a diving interception. Jahmal Banks made a one-armed diving highlight reel snag on the Huskers’ first pass. And local favorite Rahmir Johnson carried five times for 39 yards for a touchdown and a nifty 22-yard run up the middle to the BC 2 that set up Kwinten Ives’ 2-yard run past fullback Ty Robinson – yes, that Ty Robinson.

The rain has long since stopped and the second half will begin shortly.
