I-70 is reopening in the mountains after snow-covered roads led to Christmas closures

Interstate 70 reopened in both directions after bad weather led to closures of westbound lanes near Georgetown and eastbound lanes at the Eisenhower Tunnel on Wednesday.

The westbound lanes of the busy mountain thoroughfare were closed earlier in the day near Georgetown due to unsafe driving conditions. This followed a closure of the eastbound lanes at the Eisenhower Tunnel due to an accident east of the tunnel, state police said.

U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass was closed Wednesday for snow removal and authorities restricted hazmat vehicles from passing through the tunnel every hour.

The National Weather Service is forecasting unsettled weather in Summit County over the next few days, with a chance of snow every day for the rest of the month.
